Stadtwerke Norderstedt is one of the first users of the new version 2.00 of EFR GmbH’s SGH-S smart meter gateway. The device was the first gateway in Germany to be certified under the European Cybersecurity Certification (EUCC Regulation EU 2024/482) and is ready for “TR v2.0”.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, energy management specialist EFR officially handed over one of the first EUCC-certified devices to Martin Schäning, Team Leader of Smart Metering, at the Stadtwerke Norderstedt Technology Center. The device was then commissioned by Stadtwerke Norderstedt technicians at the installation site. As expected, the connection was established immediately, and the gateway communicated seamlessly with the BSI-certified GWA platform Tremondi from provider MeterPan, which is used by Stadtwerke Norderstedt.
The new version of the Secure Smart Grid Hub thus demonstrates that it can guarantee stable system processes and investment security right from the start. In addition, the EFR ensures high device availability and short-term delivery capability, as the gateway is produced centrally in Germany at the Wutha-Farnroda site in Thuringia.
“We are able to reliably support distribution network operators in meeting their mandatory installation quotas—even on short notice and without the risk of surcharges for small order quantities,” says Antonio Marcello, Sales Account Manager at EFR.
Further development on a solid foundation
The new SGH-S v2.00 smart meter gateway fits seamlessly into EFR GmbH’s development strategy, which has prioritized integration with all common GWA systems and interoperability with a wide range of meters—including across different utility sectors—from the very beginning.
Functionally, the new version includes, among other things, the Compact Profile for Wireless M-Bus. This allows 15-minute readings from up to 52 meters—42 wireless and 10 wired—to be processed via a single gateway. This is particularly beneficial for larger properties, as it improves cost-effectiveness. Another new feature is the integration with network management systems. EFR is working closely with the Munich-based company SPiNE, whose system integrates gateways from various manufacturers and manages them centrally.
With version v2.00 of the SGH-S, functions such as control from the gateway can be retrofitted via software updates (“TR v2.0 ready”), ensuring a high level of investment security. Certification according to the new Technical Guideline 2.0 is currently in preparation.
