Utilization of renewable energy resources in HVAC equipment can be optimized by incorporating weather forecasts. Weather forecasts can be used in predictive control to help optimize energy use and reduce costs.
The application areas are wide-ranging and include, for example:
EFR transmits weather forecasts for the European region. The forecast data is generated by a renowned meteorological service, based on a global weather model using satellite data. The range of deployment extends from predictive building and facility management to consumer weather stations. Transmission via the EFR longwave broadcast system in Germany and parts of central Europe allows easy deployment without an additional communications infrastructure, thanks to internally developed, highly integrated semiconductor devices for receiver equipment.
The system consists of the WS-K Compact weather forecast station, which receives weather forecast data and the time signal of the EFR longwave broadcast service and is additionally equipped with a built-in temperature sensor and a Modbus RTU data interface.
For the small-scale weather forecasts of the meteorological services, the data is provided via a MOS system with local data values, so the forecast data is optimized for the region concerned.
The weather data is divided into meteorological regions and can be conveniently selected using a list of cities and regions.
Geographic location coordinates can be entered in the WS-K to support location-specific weather forecasts. More than 8,000 cities throughout Europe can be selected.
The WS-K weather forecast station is a compact receiver and processing unit suitable for outdoor use and can be connected directly to the controller through defined interfaces.
The following weather data packages and additional optional data are available for the WS-K:
Weather data package:
Min/max air temperature, precipitation amount, precipitation probability, significant weather, sunlight duration, solar irradiation, advanced air temperature forecast (outdoor temperature forecast with 1-hour resolution for 4 days), air pressure forecast, wind strength, wind direction, unusual weather events
Additional data provision:
Advanced air temperature forecast – special data structure for the next 48 hours, updated hourly
