The Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) is the communication hub of the intelligent metering system (iMS). It bundles consumption and generation data, provides it securely and supports functions such as traffic calculation. As a modern, flexible component, the SMGW enables data exchange via various communication channels, such as Ethernet, cellular network or broadband powerline. Via the CLS interface, it can also send switching commands to control devices, for example for load management, heating control or regulating EEG feed-in.
